Huntington Beach is home to three haunted sites, all of which occur around local schools. Some students are never ready to go home at the end of the day.

Located near the Pacific Ocean, Huntington Beach is a mid-size California city with a small town feel. The city is home to major companies, including Boeing and Quicksilver and it has its own surfing museum. The city also has several ghosts and haunted spots. Oddly enough, the three haunted sites and ghosts stories surrounding Huntington Beach are all schools.

Haunted Hungington Beach Ethel Dwyer Middle School

Ethel Dwyer Middle School gets its name from a woman of the same name. Dwyer attended class there as a young girl. After college, she returned to the school and taught for years. Ethel apparently loved her school so much that she never left. After the school closes for the night, residents report seeing weird lights flashing inside the school. Some students and teachers hear the sounds of moaning or whispering in the boiler room.

Ghosts of Hungton Beach Edison High School

Edison High School in Huntington Beach has several ghosts. One ghosts resides in the locker room. The ghost plays with the shower and the lockers. Students in the boys’ locker room before school starts hear the sounds of the boy shaking the lockers and turning the water on in the showers.

Both the soccer field and baseball field have paranormal activity. Several ghosts wander around the soccer field, while some report seeing ghostly lights near the baseball diamond. Most of the activity surrounding the athletic fields take place late at night and after the school closes.

Haunted Huntington Beach High School

Huntington Beach High School is home to the ghost of a former student named Greg. Greg was an actor with a role in the school play. He killed himself from a rafter in the auditorium, while the other actors looked on in shock. History does not record what could make a student do such a thing.

Local legend claims that Greg sticks to a particular rope, still hanging in the auditorium. Before a play, students acknowledge him by leaving a slip of paper with their signature near the rope. Legend also claims that whenever the school tried moving the rope, bad luck befell the play. Things fell from the ceiling, students screwed up, props disappeared, and sets suffered destruction.

The three haunted schools in Huntington Beach, California prove that school is a troubling time, regardless of your age. The stories include poor students that killed themselves, rather than carry on through the hard times or seek help. The ghostly stories are sad, but each one might make you think twice the next time you see a light flickering in a school.
