Whether you work from home, work in an office, or stay at home with the kids, you are on your feet hours every day. During the summer months, you might take special care to protect your feet because others see them in sandals and flip-flops, but you pay less attention during the winter months. The winter is particularly drying to the skin and by protecting your feet, you ensure that the look great once the warm weather returns.
Soaking Your Feet
Soak your feet at least three times a week or preferably, once a day. Fill a large plastic basin with 1/2 cup to one cup Epsom salts and add warm water until it reaches a few inches below the top. Avoid using hot water, which has a drying effect. Gently place your feet in the basin and soak for approximately 15 minutes. The warm water improves circulation, which makes your feet look beautiful.
Foot Exercises
Ever muscle in your body needs regular exercise, including your feet. Exercising your feet during winter improves circulation and strengthens muscles, which keeps the feet healthy. Do the exercises during a bath, while you soak your feet, or even while watching television.
Point your toes and lift your foot a few inches off the floor. Slowly traces the letters of the alphabet with your toes, moving your whole foot. For another simple foot exercise, stack old toys or socks a few feet away from your body. Move your feet to the items and gently lift and lower the items one at a time.
Massaging the Feet
A lubricating or moisturizing lotion goes a long way toward making your feet look healthy. Apply a dab of the lotion of the ball of one foot and carefully rub the lotion back toward the heel and up toward the toes. The lotion hydrates the feet, reducing signs of cracking caused by dry air and cold winter conditions. Roll your ankles in small rotations, as you rub the lotion into your skin.
After Shower Foot Care
As soon as you climb out of the shower, carefully dry each foot, making sure that you do not leave behind any water or moisture. Rub a thick lotion or cream onto the tops and bottoms of your feet and around the ankles. Do not apply lotion to your toes, as the lotion can lead to a fungal infection. Slip your feet into a pair of thick socks. The combination of the heat and socks helps melt away rough spots and leaves your feet smooth and soft.
